Motorcycle Maintenance Tips for the Bangladesh Monsoon Season
The monsoon season in Bangladesh can be tough on motorcycles. Heavy rains, flooded roads, and humidity can cause significant damage if you're not prepared. Here are essential maintenance tips to keep your bike running smoothly.
1. Chain Maintenance
Water and mud accelerate chain wear. Clean and lubricate your chain every 200-300km during monsoon. Use a quality chain cleaner and O-ring compatible lubricant. A well-maintained chain lasts significantly longer.
2. Tire Check
Wet roads demand good tire tread. Check your tires for wear and maintain proper inflation. Consider switching to rain-specific tires if you commute daily. Good tires are your primary safety equipment on wet roads.
3. Brake Inspection
Water reduces braking efficiency. Inspect brake pads regularly and replace if worn below the minimum thickness. After riding through standing water, apply brakes gently a few times to dry them.
4. Electrical Protection
Moisture can cause electrical problems. Apply dielectric grease to electrical connections. Check your battery terminals for corrosion. Keep wiring harnesses away from water splash areas.
5. Anti-Rust Protection
Apply WD-40 or similar protectant to exposed metal parts. Wipe down your bike after every ride in the rain. Pay special attention to bolts, nuts, and the exhaust system.
Your Riding Gear Too!
Don't forget to maintain your riding gear. Let wet jackets and gloves dry naturally — avoid direct heat. Waterproof treatments can be reapplied to extend the life of your gear. Check out Bikyee's waterproof jackets designed specifically for Bangladesh's monsoon conditions.
